Information
Models please read this sheet before we shoot:
Escort: Sure, I always welcome escorts. You can bring a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, friend, wife, or whoever helps you feel comfortable. I will warn you though, if the escort gets in the way I will stop shooting. You will not get any refund, and I will still charge you for the time you have booked! The time you booked was taken from my schedule, and can't be replaced at that time.
Transportation: Yes, I can give you a ride. There is a fee for that, as any other person would have expenses as well. I prefer that you get your own ride to and from the shoot. It is important to me to reserve as much time as possible to concetrate on the pictures, lighting, and other setup work. The less time I have to spend on transportation and arrangments the more time I have to devote to the pictures.
Proof of age: Please bring 2 forms of photo ID that show your full name and date of birth. I will need to take a picture of it to keep on file. You must be at least 18 for me to shoot you. If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian on site with us. The parent or guardian will have to have ID to prove this as well.
Model release: This is a must before we shoot, so here again is a link: !!IMPORTANT!! - A Model Release form
Make up: I don't do make up! I would highly recommend you have someone either do it for you or bring someone along that can. I can arrange for a MUA, but that will cost extra as well. The amount is dependant on the MUA's fees, as I don't set that.
Different look?: If you have a a different look than what I have see in your portfolio let me know. Hair shorter or different color? Tattoos? Piercings that will be seen?
Details: Is the information in your portfolio correct? If not, now is the time to let me know.
Nails: If you have chipped nails, fix them or remove polish them please. Yes nails do show, so if you want the best results then make them look good as well.
Accessories: Bring along some accessories for you look. We may or may not use them, but have some variety along. Necklace, shoes, bracelets, jewelry...
Outfits: For outfits, bring along solid outfits. No busy looking designs that look distracting. There may be some exceptions, but I am hoping we have discussed some ideas before we get this far. I usually like to shoot a few outfits, and a few styles. I like to give you a few different looks, and ideas from our shooting time.
I would prefer if you bring at least 5 options. Preferably more ha ha... but keep it to outfits that you are interested in yourself. If you don't like it don't bring it!!
Don't have plans right after the shoot! When we are creating some great work I don't want to have our time cut short, or you thinking about the other stuff that you have to do.
We should be having fun shooting, and not be worrying about later plans. Travel light, don't bring more then you will need! Remember someone has to carry all my gear!! ha ha...
Suggestions: If you need ideas for outfits, or styles of hair, backgrounds... what ever, feel free to ask.
Spray on tans: Don't. Take your time, and get a tan rather. Pale skin is easy to work with as well. If your skin is blotchy, don't waste my time, please.
Phone number: Yes this is important! I respect yours as I expect you to respect mine as well. I prefer to text, and communicate about the shoot. If I can't get a hold of you we will not shoot. Please keep your phone charged for the day of the shoot. I would hate to make you drive a long way for nothing, and like wise I am sure you would feel the same for me. If you can't afford to use your phone, you can't afford to the shoot either. If you are waiting for me to get back to you, call/text me. I am a busy person, and have all sorts of other things going on. Don't be shy!!
FAQ:
Q: Do I get a CD of the shoot?
A: No. I will send you a link to a secured page on my website. From there you will be able to download the images as I make them available to you.
Q: Will I get the un-edited versions of my pictures?
A: No. I will first edit all pictures I pass on to you (maybe just quickly if that is all that is needed). If you want a simple small pic for facebook, I will get it ready for you so you don't have to crop it(accept for avatars). I want to make sure that when people see my work they see it how I made it. I want to keep, and build up a great reputation. If we have some out takes, ones that we laughed about, or something silly we shot, I can get those to you, but again after I have gone over them first.
Q: I (the model) do Photoshop work, can I edit my own pics?
A: Sure, take all the pictures you want. You can edit your own pictures not mine. If you want to edit the pictures after I give them to you, please don't waste my time, and just find another photographer. I have had this happen with a few of my pics, and they totally ruined them! Not interested in that happening again. If you have a special idea in mind, and approach me about it, we may be able to arrange something with a few pictures. MAYBE
ATTENTION (models):
Fun Facts about me:
1. I’m clean cut, polite, quiet, fun guy. Not one of those hitting on all the pretty ladies type.
2. I don’t mind if you bring an escort, AKA “Reflector Holder,” as long as
she is unobtrusive.
3. Many photographers shoot one style. I'd like to be regarded as somewhat unique, and a photographer who can
shoot many styles. I like variety, and having fun.
4. When you contact me, you will be talking to me. I don't have a secretary, or boss... just me, the photographer.
5. If you are still reading this, thank you. Please continue.
6. I love my Nikon, but always keep in mind… the camera is just a tool.
7. I am not a magazine editor, nor do I own a chain of studios. I am not offering you flights and hotels, nor am I
just trying to get your picture like a trophy. If I wanted to buy a portfolio, I could!
8. The only work I do with flakes: select all, delete...
9. I'm all about quality over quantity. If you're looking for quantity, go to Costco.
10. I wouldn’t ask a model to do anything I wouldn’t do. In fact, I wouldn’t ask a model to do a lot of the things
that I would do. I do ask that you have as much fun as me though.
11. Are you still reading this?
12. I appreciate the nice comments. Keep the negative ones to yourselves, I'm 6',2" and
and play hockey.. get the idea..? Constructive criticism is always welcome, just do it politely.
13. After reading the last note you should also know I am a little shy, and as gentle as a teddy bear.
14. Are you looking for a fashion shoot, you know one of those with a nice white background? Those do make pretty
pictures don't they. Or maybe one with a ...yawn...
15. I live with snow almost half of the year, so the weather usually won't stop me from shooting pictures.
16. I’m not here to date. If that is what you are looking for, maybe I can help you get your next date with some great
pictures.
17. I took all of the shots and did all of the photoshop work (if required) in my port. If you see some of my work you don't
like on another port out there, they likely photo crapped it (happens too often), and I will not work with them again.
18. If you feel that one photographer is all you want to work with, then so be it. That is all you will work with, not
my loss, I prefer models that have variety on their ports.
19. This is not a job application, and I don't have any fancy degrees, and I don't have any big awards...
(should have been read in sarcastic Homer Simpson voice). If you want to know more about me just ask.
Is photography my job? No, not the last I checked, but I do not shoot models for free. If I decide that I want
to pay a model I will, but I will have offered it.
20. The above is not that important... If you like my work, book a shoot already!
My Model Pet Peeves:
1. I despise flakes because I could have booked someone else or made other plans. Flaking will only
guarantee that we never shoot. BTW, my definition of flaking is simple... no shows, with no calls.
2. I'm a big fan of communication, and "I want to shoot with you" is an opening line. On the other pages
there are numerous ways to get a hold of me, so there are NO excuses. Relates to point #1.
3. I do not pay models, clients pay models... so please don't tell me that you'd like to shoot and then
send me your rates. I'll simply send you mine in return. *Note* If you actually think you're special enough for me
to pay just to have you in my port, I would prefer to work with a total amateur. They appreciate it more.
4. I allow escorts, and actually prefer them, but they should be seen and not heard.
Feel free to message any of the models that I've worked with for references. You're also more than welcome to have your boyfriend
drop you off so he can size me up and give me clearance (that is between the two of you). If you don't like this
policy... too bad.
5. I may set up a shoot without speaking on the phone, but not without seeing at least a head shot. It's OK
to get things started with a few messages but when it comes to planning, 5 minutes on the phone can tell us both a lot
more then weeks of messages. And yes it helps me to see what I am going to be working with. I am a visual person. When
it comes to model shoots, I prefer to know what I am working with.
6. "I am agency represented..." good for you. Then they can pay me instead of you. Get a real agency,
they'll know that.
Photographers, please read:
1 Stop being such weirdos around models. It makes it hard for them to trust other photographers such as
myself and is why they avoid giving out their phone numbers.
2 I don't understand why some photographers like to guard the models they've shot like Frodo with his ring.
Why not help them rather then hurting them...!
3 What's with the over editing? Did you screw up the shot?
4 Canon is nice and all, but please, do you all drive Honda's?
5 Can't we all just get along? Can we just agree that my equipment is better?
6 Studios are great, when I want one I will build one. So if this were a competition, well it's not.
What else should I do with my 6,500 sq feet of space? I feel that I already have a great location to shoot,
including my two miles of riverfront property?
Taken in part from a fellow photographer "
Joey Wright", thanks.
